On December 16, 2025, at 6:47 A.M., Metro Transit Police responded to the West Bank Light Rail Station, Hennepin County, for a reported assault with weapons call. Officers arrived shortly thereafter and saw an adult male, later identified as ANDREW LEE RUSSELL, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter "Defendant," being detained by Metro Transit employees. Officers spoke with another male, hereinafter "Victim," who indicated he was an employee who was cleaning bus shelters on the corner of Cedar Ave. And Third St. The Defendant got off a bus and approached him saying, "What the f*** is you doing?" Victim told him to mind his own business and continued to sweep.
He then heard Defendant say, "I'll cut your ass." Victim turned around and saw Defendant with a knife out walking towards him. Victim [NAME REDACTED] from Defendant and saw Defendant was following him. Officers recovered a knife on the platform approximately ten feet away from Defendant. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was the knife Defendant had pulled on him. Defendant confirmed that the knife located was his knife. Defendant was placed under arrest and brought to the Hennepin County Jail where he remains in custody.
