That on or about September 12, 2025, at approximately 09:21 hours, Minneapolis Police Officer A. S. And K. K. Responded to a call regarding a trespass in a boarded dwelling located at [ADDRESS REDACTED]. NE in the city of Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Remarks in the call were that the business is closed, partially boarded and there are unknown number of people inside. Upon arrival the officers spoke to the property manager, C. P., who stated that he and G. L. M., who was there to fix a water leak, were inside the property when they heard noises from somewhere inside.
Officer A. S. And K. K. Entered and began clearing the building, which was very dark with lots of scraps around. The officers made multiple announcements that they were the “police”, that no one was supposed to be there, and asked them to come out. Officer A. S. Located a person, later identified as JEROME OTON CHAIREZ, [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, “sleeping” under a desk in one of the rooms. Defendant had a black backpack around his back. The officer told Defendant he was not supposed to be in the building, removed the straps of the backpack from Defendant’s shoulders and placed Defendant in handcuffs.
Officer A. S. Asked Defendant if he had taken the bag from the building and Defendant said no and that it was his backpack. Officer A. S observed that the backpack appeared very heavy and full of tools. Officer A. S. Searched the backpack Defendant was a carrying and located a black 9mm handgun (Canik semi-auto pistol, model-TP9 Elite SC, 9mm) in the right-side zippered pocket as well as a loaded 9mm magazine belonging to the same gun. Defendant stated he found the firearm in an alley and forgot that the gun was in his backpack.
The property manager was able to view Defendant and informed the officer that Defendant did not have permission to be in the property. In a Mirandized statement Defendant admitted that he went to the incident address, the address was surrounded by a fence that was closed, and he entered the property to stay warm. Defendant further admitted that he was the owner of the backpack and that its contents belonged to him; Defendant stated that he found the firearm in an alley, separated the ammo from the gun and place it into his backpack.
Checks revealed that Defendant did not have a permit to carry a firearm in the State of Minnesota.
