On or about May 23, 2026, at approximately 4:42 A.M., an officer with the Northfield Police Department was dispatched to the 1100 block of 1st Street W in Northfield, Rice County, Minnesota on a report of a vandalized vehicle. Dispatch notes indicated the reporting party had picked up his daughter after she was dropped off in Minneapolis. When they returned to the daughter's vehicle near St. Olaf College, they discovered the vehicle had been vandalized. Dispatch notes informed the officer that the suspect was the ex-boyfriend of the reporting party's daughter.
The officer arrived on scene and located a silver Chevrolet Equinox bearing an Oregon license plate. Next to the vehicle the officer located and spoke with the reporting party, K. H., and registered owner of the vehicle, Victim 1. Victim 1 stated the damage was caused by her daughter, A. P.'s, ex-boyfriend. A. P.'s ex- boyfriend is NILE-JOBE MONROE [DOB REDACTED], defendant herein. Victim 1 stated she knew the defendant caused the damage to the vehicle because the defendant told A. P. That he damaged her vehicle.
A. P. Utilizes the vehicle, though it is registered to Victim 1. The officer inspected the vehicle and noticed the following damage: · Both headlights broken; · Both door mirrors broken; · Hood damaged and open; · Driver front fender damage; · Engine cover cracked; · Wires appeared to be pulled on in the engine bay; · Both taillights broken; · Deep scuff marks to the driver front window; · Radio screen broken. The officer also reviewed security camera footage from a pole right in front of the damaged Equinox.
The videos depicted a male matching the physical description of the defendant damaging the car with what appeared to be a hammer. The defendant appeared to return in a Nissan Altima with a partial plate of 336. The defendant is the registered owner of a 2005 Nissan Altima bearing MN license plate [PLATE REDACTED]. The video footage also depicts the defendant hitting the mirrors, hood and headlight with a hammer. The defendant entered the front driver's door. While in the front seat, defendant appeared to hit the dash of the vehicle.
The video also depicts the defendant pulling at wires in the left front corner of the engine bay. Based on the officer's experience in automotive parts, the officer estimated the damage to be over $1,000. A KOPS alert was issued for the defendant, and he was taken into custody. In a post-Miranda statement, the defendant admitted to driving to Northfield and damaging A. P.'s vehicle. The defendant stated the purpose of driving to Northfield was to vandalize the car as he was upset A. P. Had apparently moved on from their relationship.
The defendant told the officer he threw the hammer in the south side ditch on 1st Street. The hammer was later located and placed into evidence.
