On 10/20/2023, a Brindle Pitbull Mix dog named Luna was designated as a dangerous dog by the City of Ham Lake, pursuant to Minnesota Statutes Chapter 347. Luna’s owner is Timothy Michael Hunsick [DOB REDACTED], herein the defendant. The defendant resides at [ADDRESS REDACTED] NE, in the City of Ham Lake, County of Anoka. Pursuant to Luna’s designation as a dangerous dog, the defendant is required to renew Luna’s registration annually. On May 7, 2025, the Deputy City Clerk of the City of Ham Lake sent the defendant a letter following up with the defendant regarding a request from him to review Luna's dangerous dog designation.
Said letter enclosed a form that must be completed to request the review. In addition, the letter also noted that Luna’s Dangerous Dog registration expired on February 1, 2025, and if they opted not to complete the request for review that instead they needed to renew the Dangerous Dog registration. The letter said to submit the information to the City by June 9, 2025. On June 9, 2025, in an effort to have the defendant either renew Luna’s registration, or move forward with the request that the designation be reviewed, the Deputy City Clerk emailed the defendant the documents that were previously mailed on May 7, 2025. The City and the defendant exchanged a few more emails and/or phone calls after June 9, 2025. Then, on October 10, 2025, the City Attorney for the City of Ham Lake, Mark Berglund emailed the defendant and stated the if the City did not receive documentation that the defendant was in compliance with the dangerous animal designation requirements, or that Luna was put down or no longer in the City by October 17, 2025, then a misdemeanor citation for failure to comply with the City code would be issued.
To date the defendant has not renewed Luna’s Dangerous Dog registration.
