On December 16, 2025, law enforcement responded to a domestic assault and weapons call at a residence near the 1200 block of Brook Ave SE, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. A known adult female, Victim herein, met Officers in the lobby of the apartment. Victim [NAME REDACTED], Antoinette Avant, Defendant herein, had pulled a handgun on her in the course of an argument. Victim described the handgun as tan and having a flashlight on it. Officers went up to the apartment and located Defendant therein.
Defendant was placed in handcuffs and searched incident to arrest. In Defendant's pocket was a live 9mm bullet. Defendant admitted she is a felon and cannot possess ammunition. Officers searched the apartment and were unable to locate the firearm due to the amount of clothing and debris in the apartment. Victim [NAME REDACTED] reported that they had been drinking that night before an argument ensued. Victim reported Defendant pulling her off the bed, throwing her onto the couch, and strangling her.
In the course of the assault, Defendant pulled Victim's wig off. Victim's wig was pulled off when she was talking to officers. Victim stated that she nearly lost consciousness during the strangulation and that it was hard to breathe and her vision was cloudy. Victim reported trying to call 911, but hanging up quickly because Defendant stated she would have a "shootout" with police if they were called. When 911 dispatch called back, Victim [NAME REDACTED] was her brother so Defendant would not know.
Victim was able to get out of the apartment and wait in the lobby. Defendant has an extensive criminal history out of the State of Illinois. This includes prior convictions for possession of narcotics, weapons, and domestic violence. Defendant is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition as a result of this criminal history. Defendant's convictions include, but are not limited to: Felony Domestic Battery, Aggravated Domestic Battery, Aggravated Battery causing Great Bodily Harm, 2/4/2011 in Illinois. 2010CR077740, a crime of violence.
