On December 29, 2025, at 12:24 P.M., Brooklyn Park Police Department officers were dispatched to a group home [ADDRESS REDACTED] North in the city of Brooklyn Park, Hennepin County, Minnesota for a fight in progress between two residents. Upon arrival, officers met with staff member, NEG (AOB: 12/24/1986), who told them a resident, later identified as ASMAA BASHIR KASSIM ([DOB REDACTED], “DEFENDANT” hereinafter), retrieved a knife from the kitchen and began banging on another resident’s door, VICTIM [DOB REDACTED]. NEG said DEFENDANT attempted to force entry into VICTIM’s room while holding the knife and making verbal threats, including, “I will kill you.” Officers met with VICTIM, [NAME REDACTED] in their bedroom when they received a text message from DEFENDANT threatening to kill VICTIM’s cat.
VICTIM confronted DEFENDANT through DEFENDANT’s closed bedroom door about the threatening messages, an argument ensued, and then VICTIM [NAME REDACTED]. Next, VICTIM [NAME REDACTED] on VICTIM’s bedroom door, threw things at the door, and stabbed the door with a knife in attempt to break down the door. VICTIM said DEFENDANT opened the door and came towards them while they were sitting on their bed, making a stabbing motion with the knife. VICTIM [NAME REDACTED] was saying, “I am going to kill you,” and then threw the knife at them.
VICTIM said they felt and believed DEFENDANT would kill them at that time. VICTIM [NAME REDACTED] into a common area where a physical altercation occurred ending with VICTIM [NAME REDACTED] from DEFENDANT’s attacks. Officers also spoke with DEFENDANT, who told them they confronted VICTIM via text message about VICTIM’s cat getting into DEFENDANT’s property. DEFENDANT’s version of events allege that VICTIM kicked DEFENDANT’s bedroom door in, VICTIM [NAME REDACTED], and then VICTIM went back to their bedroom.
DEFENDANT said she then went to VICTIM’s bedroom and attempted to kick the door down. She then opened the bedroom and attempted to scare VICTIM with a knife, but VICTIM was not scared so she left. Officers observed the area and saw damage to VICTIM’s bedroom door that appeared to have been caused by a knife. Officers also saw broken pieces of a vacuum cleaner and broken pieces of a lamp. Officers also saw a knife on the far side of VICTIM’s bedroom, next to the bed, which lined up with the trajectory that DEFENDANT would have thrown the knife at VICTIM. DEFENDANT is in custody.
