On July 7, 2025, Ofc. Sillers of the Rochester Police Department responded to Target North, [ADDRESS REDACTED] NW, Rochester, MN 55901. Upon arrival, Ofc. Sillers learned from Target Loss Prevention employees that Nathan Peter Tavares [DOB REDACTED] was suspected of committing or attempting to commit theft. Target employees asked that TAVARES leave the merchandise he was carrying and be trespassed from both Target stores in Rochester, Minnesota. Ofc. Sillers read the trespass notice to TAVARES, noting that it was for both Rochester Target stores, and TAVARES stated he understood.
Target Loss Prevention employees reviewed the surveillance footage from January 10, 2026. On January 10, 2026, TAVARES can been seen entering the store at 8:28 A.M. Between 8:29 and 8:31 A.M., TAVARES makes multiple selections. At 8:34 A.M., TAVARES begins a transaction at point of sale 175. During this transaction, TAVARES skips scanning some of the items. TAVARES then left the store without paying for any of the items (that he scanned or did not scan). At 8:36 A.M., TAVARES bypassed all points of sale and exited the store with unpaid merchandise.
The value of the stolen merchandise was $423.91. On October 10, 2025, TAVARES was sentenced in Olmsted County District Court File No. 55-CR-25-3899 for a violation of Section 609.582. TAVARES received a felony sentence. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: YOU MUST APPEAR FOR EVERY COURT HEARING REGARDING THIS CASE.
