On October 13, 2025, Minnetrista Police were dispatched to a fraud report at the lobby. Police responded and spoke with the victim [NAME REDACTED], who reported she had been the victim [NAME REDACTED]. The victim [NAME REDACTED], in Hennepin County. N. S. Told police she had written a check on 08/18/25 to Mediacom for her monthly bill in the amount of $56.27. N. S. Reported she pays her bills via check in the mail. On approximately 09/23/25, N. S. Was notified by Mediacom that she had an outstanding balance and they had never received her check.
N. S. Then looked and discovered there was a withdrawal from her US Bank checking account for $1,1837.69. N. S. Immediately reported the transaction as fraudulent. US Bank later provided N. S. With a copy of the fraudulent check #2509 which was written out to Diamond Johnson with a check memo stating "Travel Nurse Asst." N. S. Confirmed the routing and account numbers were accurate and the check was dated 09/08/25. N. S. Also filed a claim with USPS because the check was sent via mail. On October 25, 2025, police received a subpoena response from US Bank, showing that N. S.'s check had been cashed at a location in Illinois.
The identification used to cash the check was an Illinois license number. The check entries indicated that the check was cashed on 09/20/25. Police searched the identification number and found the ID belonged to DIAMOND LASHAY JOHNSON [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein. Police obtained an additional subpoena and on November 17, 2025, received camera footage from US Bank showing the female suspect wearing blue scrubs walk into the IL branch of US Bank to complete the transaction. Police later requested Defendant's [DL# REDACTED] from the Illinois Secretary of State, which appeared to be the same person that cashed the check on video footage.
The driver's license ID also matched the ID number of the one provided during the transaction. At present, Defendant is not in custody. The State is requesting the complaint issue as a warrant as police attempted to contact Defendant multiple times but were unsuccessful.
