On or about October 4, 2025, at approximately 4:10 PM, officers of the Crystal Police Department were dispatched to [ADDRESS REDACTED], City of Crystal, Hennepin County, Minnesota, on report of a property damage accident that occurred in the Aldi parking lot. The accident involved two vehicles, a Volskwagen Taos and a Nissan Armada, driven by ROCHELLE RENEE ORR NEWTON, [DOB REDACTED], the Defendant herein. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers met with both drivers. The driver of the Volkswagen was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The Nissan, Defendant's vehicle, had five occupants including Defendant, with two of those being juveniles. When asked for identifying information, Defendant gave the name LASHELLE RENEE ORR NEWTON, [DOB REDACTED]. When Defendant was asked for proof of insurance, the officer was informed that she was unable to log into her email to get the insurance card. The officer advised she would be mailed a demand for an insurance form and would receive a citation if she did not provide valid insurance. The officer then reviewed video of the accident from the store security video.
The video showed Defendant driving north through a parking lot. The Volkswagen driver began to reverse out of a parking spot and the rear of the Volkswagen contacted the rear driver quarter panel of Defendant's vehicle. Defendant had little damage to her vehicle and the Volkswagen had a large scrape on her rear bumper. Both vehicles were drivable. On October 15, 2025, an officer had a a voicemail from Lashelle Renne Orr Newton left for him. The officer was advised that in regard to the property damage accident and demand for insurance, it was her twin sister, Defendant, driving at the time.
The officer called Lashelle back and asked how Defendant had gotten her ID. Lashelle stated she had lost her ID and that her sister must have taken it. The officer was advised the two sisters were not on good terms and did not talk. Upon review of the body worn camera and comparison to DVS photos, the officer positively identified Defendant as the driver on the date in question. No listed address is provided for Defendant, resulting in a warrant request. A review of Defendant's record shows no prior related convictions.
