As Officer Abbott arrived in the area, he saw a white GMC SUV turn into Harrison Park through a pedestrian only entrance. The SUV drove toward a male born in 1995, hereinafter referred to as the Victim.
The SUV was driven by the Victim’s children’s mother, later identified as SHAKYRA KASHAY JOHNSON, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter referred to as the Defendant. Two eyewitnesses later provided corroborating accounts of what they saw. The first, a female born in 1963 who lives in the neighborhood was outside when she saw the Defendant and the Victim arguing in the parking lot at 2902 West 3rd Street. The Defendant was seated in the driver’s seat of the SUV and the Victim stood outside of the vehicle. The Victim began walking away when the Defendant drove up onto the sidewalk and accelerated toward the Victim.
The neighbor yelled “don’t do that,” which caused the Victim to turn and jump out of the way just seconds before impact. Another female born in 1989 who lives in the neighborhood was outside when she heard yelling and saw the Victim [NAME REDACTED] on the sidewalk. She also saw the Defendant following in the SUV. She also heard her neighbor yell, causing the Victim to look back and jump out of the way before getting hit by the SUV. The Victim explained that their argument started about a lack of shared responsibility on their parenting their three children in common.
The Victim [NAME REDACTED] was escalating so he attempted to remove himself from the situation by exiting the vehicle. The Defendant pulled on the Victim’s shirt which made it rip. The Victim [NAME REDACTED] on his neck consistent with being pulled by a shirt. The Victim [NAME REDACTED] on his shirt while she was still driving the vehicle. When the Defendant came to a stop sign, the Victim removed his shirt and exited the vehicle. The Defendant followed the Victim in the SUV for approximately four blocks as he walked attempting to get him back in the car.
The Victim’s torn shirt was later recovered from inside the Defendant’s vehicle. Officer Abbott was able to locate the Defendant still driving the SUV. He made a traffic stop and detained her. The Defendant told Officer Abbott that the argument escalated because the Defendant grabbed her wallet and exited the car while it was still moving. No wallet was found on the Victim. A check of the Defendant’s driving record shows her current status as revoked. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn.
