On January 17, 2026, at approximately 8:39 AM, Ofc. Sveen of the Rochester Police Department was notified by St. Mary's nursing staff that there was an assault victim [NAME REDACTED]. Ofc. Sveen made contact with Victim- an adult female fully identified in police reports. Victim's face was bloody and her right eye was swollen shut. Ofc. Sveen was advised that Victim was going to need surgery and her mouth appeared to be disfigured from an apparent assault. Victim [NAME REDACTED] at approximately 3:00 AM she was assaulted by a guy she knew as "Sav." Victim described "Sav" as a tall, skinny, Somalian male, wearing a blue hoodie and gray shorts.
Victim said that Sav and his girlfriend were at her residence in NW Rochester and she ultimately told Sav to leave because he was threatening his girlfriend. Sav was very drunk and started punching Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Sav dragged Victim [NAME REDACTED] into her bedroom and began repeatedly punching her. Sav told his girlfriend to sit on the bed in the bedroom and told her to shut up or he would kill her. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was punched over 20 times. Sav then dragged Victim [NAME REDACTED] into the bathtub.
Sav turned the water on and hit Victim again. Victim stayed in the bathtub for about two hours and at about 7:00AM she left her apartment and went to the hospital. Ofc. Winters met with management from Victim's apartment and observed surveillance video to try to identify Sav. Ofc. Winters observed that the suspect, wearing the clothing described by Victim, was Abdirahman Mohamed Sufi ([DOB REDACTED]), Defendant herein. Ofc. Winters also searched Victim's residence and found blood and a bloody towel in her bathroom.
At approximately 6:23 PM on January 17, officers located Defendant's vehicle at Walmart South. Defendant was also located and placed under arrest. Officers spoke with Defendant's girlfriend who stated that they had been drinking and were at Victim's residence. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: YOU MUST APPEAR FOR EVERY COURT HEARING REGARDING THIS CASE. FAILURE TO APPEAR FOR COURT IS A CRIMINAL OFFENSE AND MAY RESULT IN ADDITIONAL CRIMINAL CHARGES BEING IMPOSED AND PUNISHED AS PROVIDED IN MINNESOTA STATUTES SECTION 609.49.
