On March 17, 2026 at 8:05 pm Victim 1, an adult female, walked into the Northfield Police Department to report concerns she has regarding her son Brian William O'Connor [DOB REDACTED] (Defendant). Victim 1 met with a Northfield Officer and shared that she and Defendant had been estranged for approximately two years when Defendant reached out to her in early March for help with his mental health and money. Victim 1 was initially overjoyed to hear from her son and met with him in early March at his Northfield apartment.
Defendant presented as he was doing well, but it quickly became apparent that he was very ill and very angry. During the snow storm on Sunday March 15, 2026, Defendant called Victim 1 because he was in a panic. Victim 1 agreed to go over to the apartment to help her son, however, things escalated. Defendant took the food she cooked for him and smashed it in her face. He struck her a number of times leaving bruises on her body, and spit on her. Law enforcement observed and photographed the bruises to Victim 1's arms, legs, and ankles caused by Defendant.
Defendant refused to let Victim 1 leave his apartment by physically blocking her from exiting. He told her she wasn't going anywhere and she had to learn. Defendant did not allow her to use the bathroom and woke her up when she tried to sleep. Defendant asked her how she could sleep while he was so upset. Victim 1 pulled out a sheet of notebook paper and gave it to the officer. Victim 1 said that Defendant wrote a list of rules for how she was to interact with him and pinned it to her sweatshirt.
The list said "perceive other people as the human beings they are, analyze your material situation and its physical parameters, think critically and form a plan act." Defendant also told Victim 1 "you need to tell me that this was all your fault that I cut my fingers and that I got blood on you, you need to tell me that it's all your fault that you did not know how to shop for me, that you did not know what to buy me, that you got the pizza, that you did it wrong and that's where you needed to be punished and that's why I smooshed it in your face, you need to tell me that you needed your glasses broken, you need to tell me that you needed to compromise with me, that you said I could break your laptop." Defendant broke a number of Victim 1's possessions while she was in his apartment.
He broke two pairs of glasses and her mac book. Victim 1 reported that the mac book cost $1,400 and the glasses were $1,200 each. Victim 1 reported that she was able to leave Defendant's apartment at approximately noon on Monday, March 16th. Victim 1 shared that she wasn't able to call 911 because Defendant had taken away her cell phone.
