On November 30, 2025, at approximately 1:23 P.M., police responded to a report of a robbery at GameStop, [ADDRESS REDACTED], Maplewood, Ramsey County, Minnesota. Police spoke with an employee, WHW, who reported that the suspect entered the store around 1:15 P.M. The suspect walked around the store and picked up a PS5 Slim Disc Fortnite 1TB Bundle, which is worth $550, then approached the front desk and handed it to WHW. WHW said he rang up the PS5 and asked the suspect to fill out the sale profile.
The suspect asked WHW to show him the PS5 before purchasing it. WHW reported that he showed it to the suspect but did not let go of it due to a store policy to protect it from theft. WHW said the suspect leaned over the desk and got closer to WHW. WHW stated that he continued to hold onto the PS5 then the suspect grabbed the PS5 from WHW and ran for the door. WHW reported that he ran and blocked the door. Another employee, AMS, and a bystander grabbed the PS5 from the suspect and recovered it. The suspect punched WHW in the neck then walked out of the store.
The officer observed small red abrasions on the left side of WHW’s neck and collarbone. AMS corroborated WHW’s statement. AMS further stated that in the process of taking the PS5 from the suspect, AMS and the bystander unintentionally removed the suspect’s jacket, which was turned over to police. Police investigated the information the suspect provided on the sale profile. The name did not match the address, and the address provided by the suspect did not come back to a residence. The investigator called the phone number provided by the suspect, which belonged to an individual with a different name than the sale profile and was not the suspect.
On February 25, 2026, the investigator received a report from the BCA indicating that the major male DNA profile located on swabbings taken from the collar and wrist cuffs of the suspect’s jacket matched the offender sample for TERRELL ELIJAH OWENS – [DOB REDACTED]. The investigator compared booking photos for OWENS to surveillance footage from GameStop, and OWENS matched the suspect’s appearance. OWENS is in custody at the Ramsey County Workhouse until April 30, 2026. On March 20, the investigator spoke with OWENS. Following a Miranda advisory, the investigator showed OWENS still photos from the surveillance footage from GameStop and informed him that his DNA was found on the suspect’s jacket.
OWENS said that the male was not him, he has never owned a jacket like that, he does not game, he has never been to a GameStop, he was not driving the suspect vehicle, he does not know anything about the incident, and he does not know why his DNA would be inside of the suspect’s jacket. OWENS was convicted of Threats of Violence in Ramsey County District Court File No. ••-CR-••-•••• on March 2, 2026. The following information is offered for purposes of Rule 6.02. OWENS has convictions for First Degree Aggravated Robbery in 2018 and 2020. OWENS has a pending case involving charges of Second Degree Aggravated Robbery, Fleeing Police in a Motor Vehicle, and Fleeing Police By Means Other Than Motor Vehicle in Hennepin County District Court File No. ••-CR-••-••••.
