06/17/1952). The Strelings purchased the residence on a short sale. The sale of the residence was contingent on either the roof of the residence being fixed or the homeowner's insurance that MOEN had. The insurance check was to be sent to MOEN in her name and at the time of closing, the check for $18,707.26 would be signed over to the title company and put into escrow for the Strelings. On the date of the closing signing, the insurance check was signed by MOEN and given to Quality Title title company.
The next day, Quality Title went to cash the check and there was a stop payment issued on the check. Liberty Mutual Insurance Company re-issued a check for $18,707.26 and sent that check directly to MOEN. MOEN cashed the second check from Liberty Mutual on March 21, 2025 and absconded with it. On August 13, 2025, Detective Sergeant Pomplun spoke with MOEN. Detective Pomplun asked MOEN about the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company check for $18,707.26. MOEN immediately got defensive regarding the check.
MOEN said she initially agreed to sign over the check from Liberty Mutual and did so at closing. MOEN explained that there was a stop payment on the check. MOEN received a second check for $18,707.26; however, she kept that check because she was not getting any money for the equity of her home. MOEN was unable to explain why she signed over the first check, but would not sign over the second check. MOEN claimed to have deserved that money because she was not getting any equity out of the sale of her house.
Detective Pomplun reviewed the purchase agreement, which indicated a sale price for the residence. The final purchase agreement has an amendment on 11/1/24 indicating that the purchase price would include the $18,707.26 check that would be issued to the Strelings to cover escrow on the property.
