On or about February 3, 2026, officers with the Brooklyn Park SWAT team executed a search warrant at an apartment in a complex on the 9500 block of Decatur Drive North in Brooklyn Park, Hennepin County, Minnesota, as part of an ongoing investigation into an armed robbery and kidnapping case. During the execution of the warrant, officers detained two parties who exited the apartment, including TAMORRIS LARON TENNIN, [DOB REDACTED] (“Defendant” herein). Once the apartment was cleared, officers conducted a search of the apartment.
Officers recovered a blue backpack just outside of the front door of the apartment. Video review showed Defendant had placed the backpack just outside the front door before being taken into custody. Inside the backpack, officers found a wallet containing an identification card for Defendant along with other cash and debit cards. Officers also found a plastic container, which contained a white, crystal-like substance consistent with the appearance of methamphetamine. The white, crystal-like substance weighed 4.91 grams and field tested positive for methamphetamine.
Officers also recovered a loaded handgun wrapped in a towel just outside the front door of the apartment. Video review showed Defendant placed that outside the apartment door as well before being taken into custody. Officers secured the handgun and identified it as a Ruger LC9S 9 mm with serial number 328- 06158. Defendant was arrested. Officers questioned Defendant about the substance found in the blue backpack and the firearm. When asked if his DNA would be found on the firearm, Defendant said it would not because “he handled [the firearm] with a towel.” Defendant confirmed that the blue backpack was his and contained his wallet, identification, money, and debit cards.
Officers asked Defendant who owned the firearm recovered right outside the apartment door, and Defendant became evasive. Defendant explained that, when police knocked on the door, he wanted to check to see if the firearm was inside the apartment because he did not want the owner of the apartment to get in trouble. Defendant stated he found the firearm in the apartment owner’s bathroom, and he used a towel to transport it because he did not want to leave his DNA on the firearm. Defendant repeatedly said he was trying to protect the apartment owner, whom he described as “completely innocent.” Following this interview, officers transported Defendant to the Hennepin County jail.
While processing Defendant, deputies found a glass pipe underneath Defendant’s right pant leg. After the pipe was removed, Defendant was escorted to a machine for X-rays. The images showed Defendant had an unknown substance near his rectum area. Deputies removed the substance, which was a clear bag that contained multiple bundles of a white power-like substance and one bundle of a crystal-like substance. Three bundles of a white powdered substance field tested positive for cocaine and weighed 1.86 grams, 3.7 grams, and 3.29 grams, respectively.
