On June 11, 2026, Detectives with the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office West Metro Drug Task Force executed a narcotics and human trafficking warrant at [ADDRESS REDACTED], #7, in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. The target of the investigation was JAQUAN PRINCE PEOPLES, DEFENDANT herein. He was located in the north bedroom of the apartment along with an adult female. When officers attempted to enter the room, DEFENDANT PEOPLES tried to push the door shut. When officers made entry, DEFENDANT PEOPLES then physically resisted officers' attempts to detain him.
He was kicking his legs around and refusing commands. At one point, he tried to run out of the bedroom. It took multiple deputies to gain control. Officers found $1140 cash on his person. Four other adults were found in the apartment. One of these adults was identified as KAYLA LYNN REYNOLDS, DEFENDANT REYNOLDS HEREIN. She initially identified herself as “Leah Ann Reynolds [DOB REDACTED]” who is a real person. DEFENDANT REYNOLDS had an active warrant. Officers found 10.01 grams of fentanyl on her person.
During a search of the room DEFENDANT PEOPLES was in, officers recovered: - A bag of 2.15 grams of cocaine on the ground; - Multiple baggies of cocaine (39.15 grams, 8.94 grams, and 7.54 grams) and fentanyl (32.29 grams, 5.67 grams, and 18.43 grams) under the bed; - A bag holding $17,272 cash under the bed; - Digital scales, small baggies for packaging, and storage containers; - A black bag on the floor of the closet holding 23.6 grams of cocaine, 21.44 grams of methamphetamine, and a loaded firearm which was determined to be stolen.
Representative samples of the cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl field-tested positive. The quantity of drugs, manner of packaging, scales, baggies, and cash are all indicative of intent to sell. The adult female who was in the bedroom told police that when officers were knocking on the door, DEFENDANT PEOPLES forced her to spit on the firearm in an attempt to contaminate forensic evidence. Your affiant obtained a search warrant for DEFENDANT PEOPLES’ DNA. At the Hennepin County Jail, DEFENDANT PEOPLES refused to submit to the warrant.
DEFENDANT PEOPLES has prior felony convictions for prohibited person in possession of a firearm (x3), flee in a motor vehicle, threats of violence (x2), theft of motor vehicle, aggravated robbery, and simple robbery. DEFENDANTS are both currently in custody.
