Your complainant is employed by West Hennepin Public Safety. In that capacity, complainant has reviewed official reports and has learned substantially the following: On 07/24/2025 at approximately 10:50 pm, Officer Eldred and Officer Freeman were dispatched to a report of a black pickup truck swerving all over the road while travelling eastbound on County Road 6 near County Road 83, in the City of Independence, County of Hennepin, State of Minnesota. Upon arrival, officers located a black 2021 Chevrolet Silverado, MN lic.
LWB747, travelling eastbound on the bridge from County Road 6 to Highway 12. Officers observed the vehicle activate its left turn signal and while making a u-turn, it came to a complete stop despite no oncoming traffic. Officers then observed the driver jerk the steering wheel as it straightened out. Officers then activated their emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, approached the driver, and he was identified by Minnesota driver’s license as Bryce James Curtis, [DOB REDACTED], the defendant herein.
While speaking to the defendant, Officer Freeman observed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage, bloodshot eyes, and slurred speech from the defendant. The defendant stated that he was going home to Cottage Grove, but the defendant then stated that his home address was in Hugo. The defendant admitted to drinking one mixed drink with tequila roughly two hours prior. The defendant agreed to perform a series of field sobriety tests, including the horizontal gaze nystagmus test, the walk and turn test, and the one leg stand test.
In the opinion of Officer Freeman, the defendant performed poorly on the field sobriety tests and displayed multiple clues of impairment. The defendant agreed to submit to a preliminary breath test which recorded a BAC of 0.197. The defendant was placed under arrest for driving under the influence and was read the Minnesota Breath Test Advisory. The defendant stated that he understood the advisory and was granted an opportunity to contact an attorney. The defendant agreed to submit to a breath test which recorded a BAC of 0.17 at approximately 12:01 am.
The defendant was released to the custody of a friend. The defendant has a notable, but not enhanceable, DWI conviction from 02/05/09 in court file ••-CR-••-••••.
