On September 15, 2025, Coon Rapids Police responded to an address located on 129th Avenue NW in the City of Coon Rapids, Anoka County, Minnesota, to check the property for a possible burglary. According to the homeowner, two unknown males were seen on surveillance video running down the driveway carrying unknown items. Upon arrival, Officer Carlson observed the garage service door had been forced open. The homeowner who was out of state viewed the inside of the residence via FaceTime and noted the home appeared to have been rummaged through with multiple items out of place.
The homeowner provided surveillance footage from his home security system, which showed a sliver Chevrolet Silverado circling the block multiple times at approximately 1:30 A.M. Two suspects who appeared to be males were observed approaching and entering the property on at least two occasions. The suspects were observed pushing a black Rubbermaid Big Wheel cart toward the residence and later observed running from the residence with one male carrying an unknown object and the other pushing the cart.
Officers obtained additional video footage from neighbors in the area which showed the silver Chevrolet Silverado driving through the neighborhood, parking and two males exiting the vehicle and walking toward a residence. During a search of the residence Officers observed the homeowners GMC Sierra parked inside the garage blocking access to the service door leading into the home. It appeared the suspects entered the vehicle to gain access into the interior of the home through the service door. Officer Carlson collected DNA swabs from the scene including the exterior driver’s side door handles of the vehicle, the interior passenger door handle and the garage service door handle.
When the homeowner returned to Minnesota, he reported the following items stolen: a STIHL Boss Chainsaw valued at $550, a DeWalt cordless drill valued at $125, a DeWalt 20V impact driver, valued at $125, two STIHL leaf blowers each valued at $300, 12 vintage coins from the 1940s estimated value of $600 for a total approximate value of $2,000. Through the investigation Officers identified the silver Chevrolet Silverado’s registered owner to an individual initials ACK. A search of the law enforcement database revealed that SHAWN JEROME BISHOP, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter defendant was associated with the vehicle.
Law enforcement also learned the defendant was linked to other theft investigations in Eden Prairie and St. Louis Park. Officer Carlson noted the defendant’s physical description matched one of the males in the surveillance footage. On March 10, 2026, Officer Carlson received laboratory results of the swabs taken at the scene which indicated a CODIS match at the state database level. The major male DNA profiled obtained from the garage service door handle matched a convicted offender profile belonging to the defendant.
