On January 11, 2026, at approximately 9:49 P.M., Wright County Deputy Rolfson was on routine patrol when he observed a 2013 silver Jeep Compass, MN license plate [PLATE REDACTED], leaving the Casey's Gas Station at [ADDRESS REDACTED], Montrose, Wright County, Minnesota. The vehicle did not have its headlights or taillights turned on as it entered the public roadway. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver, later identified as CHRISTOPHER QUINN BRENNY, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter the defendant, was informed of the reason for the stop.
Upon running the defendant in NCIC/MN DVS, he was found to have a restricted [DL# REDACTED] of "ignition interlock device required", however the Deputy did not observe the subject vehicle to have an ignition interlock device present. When asked if the vehicle was equipped with an ignition interlock device, the defendant stated that it was but must have been ripped out while moving. Based on the Deputy’s training and experience, if they are installed correctly, the device is hardwired in and not easily pulled out.
The defendant then claimed that he blew into the device prior to driving and later stated that it was inside his home. Deputy Lisic entered the defendant’s home with his permission but did not locate the ignition interlock device. MN DVS records check also indicated Defendant had three prior ignition interlock violations. At 10:09 P.M., the defendant was placed under arrest. During a search incident to arrest, Deputy Rolfson located a bubble stem pipe with white crystalline residue, recognizable as used to consume methamphetamine., and various THC/CBD vape pens on his person.
The defendant was informed that the vehicle would be searched based on the open package of THC/CBD. In the rear of the vehicle in a camera case, Deputies located baggies containing suspected psilocybin mushrooms. Also, an open container found in the vehicle later field tested positive for marijuana. The suspected psilocybin mushrooms and marijuana were weighed. The suspected psilocybin mushrooms weighed 2.14 grams, and 4.07 grams. The marijuana weighed 0.60 grams. The substances were later sent to the Midwest Regional Forensics lab for testing.
