On February 10, 2026, at approximately 5:38 P.M., city of Brooklyn Center Police Department officers were dispatched to a report of a domestic assault located at the Speedway gas station at [ADDRESS REDACTED], in the city of Brooklyn Center, in Hennepin County, in the state of Minnesota. The reporting party, later identified as SJG, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter Victim, reported that her child’s father, later identified as PIERRE PEARSON JOPLIN, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter Defendant, had attacked her.
Victim [NAME REDACTED] had left the scene in a white Hyundai Tucson. Officers arrived at Speedway, where they met Victim. Victim [NAME REDACTED] in the car with Defendant, and that she was in the back seat. Defendant started to hit her while she was in the back seat, and she pulled out a pair of scissors to defend herself. Defendant grabbed the scissors, which then ended up cutting her hands. Officers observed a cut to her hands. While on Highway 252 near the Speedway, she got out of the vehicle and ran away, with their joint five year-old child [NAME REDACTED]. After Victim got out of the vehicle, Victim crossed the Highway 252 southbound lanes.
Defendant performed a U-Turn from northbound 252 to southbound 252 and attempted to strike her with his vehicle by swerving it toward the shoulder in her direction. Defendant then drove away, with the child [NAME REDACTED]. Defendant then started sending Victim text messages about potentially dropping the child [NAME REDACTED] in the street and telling her that she would need to find the child. Officers were able to pull up surveillance video from Speedway which showed Defendant’s vehicle attempting to strike Victim, and there were also witnesses from the Brooklyn Park ART (Alternate Response Team) who witnessed Defendant attempting to hit Victim.
Defendant has the following prior domestic related offense convictions: 1. Assault in the Third Degree, dated 8/12/2025 (Court File # ••-CR-••-••••); 2. Misdemeanor OFP Violation, dated 11/15/2023 (Court File # ••-CR-••-••••); 3. Misdemeanor OFP Violation, dated 11/15/2023 (Court File # ••-CR-••-••••). Defendant was picked up on a KOPS alert on February 12, 2026. The State requests increased bail based on the seriousness of the offense, repeated domestic-assault conduct, and because Defendant is already in warrant status on other cases, along with an open case he was on fugitive status in Wisconsin in 2025. Increased bail is necessary to protect public safety and to ensure Defendant’s appearance in court.
Defendant is in custody.
