On September 4, 2025 Officer Baker responded to a traffic related complaint in the City of Rochester, Minnesota. Officer Baker spoke with the complainant, who stated that while driving on Highway 14 eastbound, he attempted to merge into the left lane to make a left turn onto 36th Avenue. Another driver in a silver Rav 4 with partial license plate RSG did not allow him to merge. The Rav 4 eventually slowed down enough to allow him to merge. The complainant was waiting for cross traffic to pass so he could turn onto 36th Avenue at which point the other driver drove around him cutting off other vehicles heading west on Hwy. 14 and then entered a nearby parking lot.
The complainant then observed the driver of the Rav 4 park near the entrance of the softball fields. While the complainant waited for traffic to clear the driver of the Rav 4 began making hand gestures and flipping him off. The complainant was concerned about the situation, so rather than drive straight home he made multiple u-turns in the area. During this time the driver of the Rav 4 was following him and making gestures and at one point appeared to be recording him with a cell phone. At one point the complainant turned into a side neighborhood and the driver of the Rav 4 followed him.
After completing several loops in the area the complainant stated that the driver of the Rav 4 got out of his vehicle and threw an object at his complainant's car which struck his car and caused damage. The object was described as a cup or tumbler. Officer Baker observed a dent with obvious paint damage to the driver side door of complainant's vehicle. Officer advised the complainant to get an estimate for the damage to his vehicle. Complainant provided the license plate for the Rav 4 suspect vehicle, as Minnesota plate RSG245. Officer Baker ran the license plate of the suspect vehicle and determined it was registered to GARRETT JAMES CHRISTENSON, [DOB REDACTED]. Officer Baker went to Christenson's address and spoke with him.
Christenson stated that the other individual had cut him off and abruptly slammed on his brakes nearly causing a collision. Christenson admitted to losing his temper but denied any verbal exchange. When asked if he had thrown an object, Christenson initially denied doing so but later admitted to throwing a Yeti cup at the other vehicle. The complainant obtained a damage estimate for the damage to his vehicle in the amount of $2,754.86.
