On or about December 14, 2025, the Minnesota State Patrol received a driving complaint regarding a vehicle bearing Minnesota license plate [PLATE REDACTED] driving southbound Interstate 494 near Highway 55 driving 10-15 mph below the speed limit and all over the road and was a prior slumper per the reporting party. The State Patrol located the vehicle eastbound I-394 at Hopkins Crossroads and got behind the suspect vehicle and observed the vehicle then began to merge to another lane with no signal activated for the lane change.
The suspect vehicle continued eastbound I-394 in the exit lane for Highway 169/General Mills Boulevard, while in the divided off ramp, the suspect vehicle continued past the northbound, southbound and General Mills Boulevard and continued eastbound I-394. After continuing eastbound I-394, the vehicle was in the exit line for Louisiana Avenue and merged left across a solid white line with no signal to continue eastbound I-394. At this time, the State Patrol Trooper activated their emergency lights and stopped the vehicle eastbound I-394 near Xenia Avenue, St. Louis Park, Hennepin County, Minnesota.
The suspect vehicle was also traveling at about 50 mph in a posted 60 mph zone. The driver was identified as GREGORY JON THOMPSON [DOB REDACTED], Defendant Thompson herein. Defendant Thompson had slow, thick and slurred speech. Defendant Thompson was removed to do field sobriety tests. Defendant Thompson stated his slurred and slow speech were due to his dry mouth. Defendant Thompson also had very droopy eyes while speaking with me and white thick saliva string between his upper and lower lip. During field sobriety tests, Defendant Thompson displayed signs of impairment as he was swaying during the testing, and his eyes were not able to track properly, and he displayed eyelid tremors.
Defendant Thompson was arrested at this point. After Defendant Thompson was placed in the back seat of a squad car, he was dozing off and fell asleep multiple times. There was a chemical smell present in the squad car, consistent with drug use in an enclosed space. There was a rear seat passenger in the vehicle who was identified as PAIGE MARIE FITZSIMMONS [DOB REDACTED], Defendant Fitzsimmons herein. The State Patrol Troopers searched the vehicle and observed a clear baggie with a white crystal-like substance inside of it on the floorboard near where Defendant Fitzsimmons feet would have been.
Located right next to the baggie was Fitsimmons’s purse. Defendant Fitzsimmons was placed under arrest. Defendant Fitzsimmons indicated she had swallowed some drugs. Defendant Fitzsimmons then handed police a black bag that she had apparently hidden on her person and stated the driver had given her this bag. There was another passenger in the car who confirmed that Defendant Thompson did give Defendant Fitzsimmons that bag while in the vehicle. Defendant Fitzsimmons also stated that something fell out of the purse while being transported to the jail.
