On May 8, 2026, the Carver County Sheriff's Office responded to an apartment building on Lake Susan Drive regarding a custody dispute. A.M., indicated that her daughter, ABC (age under 1 year and fully identified in the police reports), was not being returned by the child's paternal-grandmother, Susan Michelle Hendricks [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter Defendant. A.M. Told deputies that she had allowed ABC to go with Defendant to Defendant's birthday dinner the day prior. A.M. Was supposed to go to the dinner, but missed the reservation and was later assaulted by the father of the child. (See Hennepin Court Court File ••-CR-••-••••). A.M. Indicated she allowed ABC to spend the night with Defendant.
A.M. Further advised she and the father of the child had never been married and paternity had not been legally established, so she had sole custody of ABC. A.M. Later provided photos of ABC with Defendant from Defendant's birthday dinner that had been sent to A.M. When Deputy Hovarter responded to the residence Defendant was coming outside. Defendant started yelling at A.M. About A.M. "putting her son in jail." Defendant stated ABC was not with her at the residence, but that she knew where ABC was located.
Defendant would not provide information about ABC's whereabouts because she was "not safe" with A.M. Deputy Hovarter later spoke with Defendant by phone and asked about ABC's whereabouts. Defendant responded "I'm not going to answer that. Where's the keys to the car [A.M.] took?" Defendant then stated "If she cares about her child so much she will give up what she needs to." Defendant then indicated she was not presently with ABC and that she would not return ABC until A.M. Returned a set of keys.
Deputy Hovarter spoke with Defendant via phone approximately 20 minutes later and advised Defendant she may be charged with deprivation of parental rights if Defendant did not return ABC. Defendant then stated ABC's father had dropped ABC off somewhere, even though the father was still in custody. Deputies made several additional attempts to contact Defendant both at her residence and via phone in efforts to have ABC returned. Ultimately, at approximately 7:00 PM, ABC's father returned a phone call stating he was with Defendant and now had ABC. ABC's father was advised that he did not have legal rights to the child and facilitated transferring ABC back to A.M.'s custody at a neutral location.
Review of calls from ABC's father from the Hennepin County Jail reveal that Father made multiple calls to Defendant throughout May 8th in which Defendant admits that she had ABC when law enforcement was present at Defendant's residence in Chanhassen. Father tells Defendant not to give ABC back. 2 ••-CR-••-•••• Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 6/1/2026 PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn.
