On May 9, 2025, officers on patrol observed a vehicle involved in suspected short-term narcotics transaction at a gas station in Brooklyn Center, Hennepin County, Minnesota. The vehicle had a crack across the entire windshield and failed to signal its turn after leaving the gas station. The vehicle had two occupants, a male driver and a female passenger who appeared slumped over. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver as Wallace Odean Johnson [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein.
The Defendant told officers he did not have a driver’s license. After conducting routine checks, officers learned the Defendant had an outstanding warrant. Officers noticed a strong chemical smell coming from the vehicle. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and located a small black case under the driver’s seat that contained suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia. When asked, the Defendant stated that the substance was fentanyl. The substance was later sent to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for testing and tested positive for 0.301g of fentanyl.
Officers also located a cross body bag between the front driver and passenger seat that contained a firearm. The Defendant is not prohibited from possessing firearms. In a post-Miranda statement, the Defendant stated the narcotics in the vehicle belonged to him, but the vehicle was his brother’s. He also was aware there was a firearm inside the vehicle. The State requests the complaint be issued by warrant as the State does not believe the Defendant will appear by summons. The Defendant has an active warrant after failing to appear for court in 19HA-CR-23- 1932. The warrant has been active since July 2025.
