That on March 5, 2026, at about 6:34 P.M. Officers responded to a shooting at the Peregrine Apartments located at [ADDRESS REDACTED] in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim [NAME REDACTED], identified as Thylun Malie Hill and Defendant herein, who was in the lobby of the building. Defendant had been shot several times and had non-life-threatening injuries. Windows in the apartment building had also been damaged from the shooting. Officers learned that another male had shot Defendant and left the scene in an identified vehicle.
Defendant initially told police that he was unaware of who shot him and that he had walked out of the front doors of the apartment complex when an unknown male approached him on foot and began firing a gun at him. Subsequent investigation revealed video of the shooting which showed that Defendant and the unknown male were both firing shots at each other, both in possession of handguns. Defendant later told police on the evening of the shooting he had contacted a person to purchase Percocet pills from who he had purchased such pills from before.
The seller arrived at the apartment building and there was concern about a vehicle parked nearby. An unknown person was near the front door and shot the Defendant. After he was shot, Defendant called the police. Defendant denied having a firearm during the incident or shooting a handgun, but admitted that he did not have a permit to carry or possess a handgun and was prohibited from possessing a firearm. Video from the Peregrine Apartments showed Defendant meeting up with a male in the vestibule area, then walk inside the lobby.
Defendant had his right hand in his right sweatshirt pocket as he walked outside. Defendant then walked out the door, shots were fired, and Defendant began running northbound. As Defendant was running northbound, he produced a black pistol and returned fire to the south in the direction of the male who had shot him. The video showed Defendant’s gun as he ran northbound. Defendant appeared to shoot his gun six times. Defendant then returned to the building after crossing West River Road from the east and entered the lobby.
Upon arrival, Officers did not find a gun on Defendant or in the area. Although Defendant denied being armed with a gun or discarding a gun after the shooting, he acknowledged that he would attempt to turn in the gun that he used during the shooting. A review of 911 calls confirmed that Defendant was seen by witnesses in possession of a gun and shooting at the male who shot him. Investigation by the Crime lab concluded that the damage to the two windowpanes at the entrance vestibule indicated that two guns fired in opposite directions during the shooting.
