On November 4, 2025, at 12:27 A.M., Richfield Police Officer Nicholas Tracy was dispatched to [ADDRESS REDACTED] S, in the City of Richfield, Hennepin County, on the report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, the officer observed an intoxicated male, identified as Daniel Jareth Mendoza Cortez and hereinafter referred to as the defendant. The defendant was arguing with two females inside the building. Officers asked the defendant to leave multiple times and had to physically force him out of the building.
The officer spoke with the two women, who stated the defendant took their phones’ and provided descriptions of the phones. The officer spoke with the defendant about returning the phones, and the defendant refused. Due to the defendant’s resistive behavior, his uncooperativeness, his intoxication level, and aggressiveness, officers attempted to place the defendant in handcuffs. While being handcuffed, the defendant was advised he was being detained. The defendant resisted being placed into handcuffs and pulled his right arm away from officers multiple times.
Officers then attempted to place the defendant in the squad car, but he refused to enter the vehicle. Officers had to push the defendant into the vehicle. The defendant was placed under arrest for obstructing legal process. The victims phones were recovered from the defendant and given back to their rightful owners.
