On or about June 3, 2026 at approximately 10:00 PM, an Officer with the Princeton Police Department was on routine patrol while driving in the area of Rum River Drive and 2nd Street South, in Mille Lacs County, when he observed headlights from 2 motorcycles. Officer observed the motorcycle proceed eastbound on Highway 95 as they rapidly accelerated and appeared as if they were potentially racing. Upon catching up to the motorcycles, one of them turned into a residence while the other continued eastbound on Highway 95. The Officer was unable to get the motorcycle on squad radar, but speeds estimated to be approximately 70-75 MPH in a 60 MPH zone.
The motorcycle was then observed to turn southbound onto 74th Avenue and then westbound onto Alpha Road. While still trying to catch up to the motorcycle, Officer was now able to get a speed on his squad radar of the motorcycle at 48 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. The motorcycle continued to rapidly accelerate. The Officer continued to try and catch up with the motorcycle and had not activated emergency lights or sirens. The motorcycle increased to speeds nearing 100 MPH. Officer advised Dispatch that he was attempting to catch up to the motorcycle.
Officer activated his emergency lights in attempts to conduct a traffic stop after crossing into Isanti County. At this point, the motorcycle began increasing in speed again and unsafely passing two or three motorists traveling in the same direction. Officer advised Dispatch that he would now be in pursuit of the motorcycle. Officer was able to maintain a visual on the motorcycle from a distance as it continued eastbound on Highway 95 at speeds estimated to be at least 130 MPH. The motorcycle continued to flee, ending up on a dead-end road.
Officer was able to catch up with the motorcycle, driving directly alongside him. The driver, later identified as CHARLES EMERSON MISTELSKE [DOB REDACTED], tipped the motorcycle over and proceeds to flee on foot. Officer exited his squad and began giving commands to MISTELSKE to stop and that he was under arrest. Officer reported that the total approximate distance of the pursuit with emergency lights and sirens activated was 3.5 miles. While MISTELSKE fled on foot, Officer draw his department issued taser and deployed it twice.
The taser made contact with the back of MISTELSKE’s right thigh and his jacket. MISTELSKE began yelling comments regarding the pain from the taser while showing no compliance and no incapacitation by the taser. MISTELSKE began to turn and walk toward the Officer, posturing and showing pre-fight indicators. Officer deployed a second taser round to the front of MISTELSKE’s right thigh. This taser deployment showed no signs of incapacitation on MISTELSKE at which point he began running toward a lake.
MISTELSKE ran onto a dock before jumping into the lake. Officer maintained a visual on MISTELSKE, following him for approximately two or three residences. At this point, Officer lost sight of him and quickly gathered his hand-held infrared camera. Isanti County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene with their canine, a drone, and watercraft. Officer was able to located MISTELSKE under a pontoon boat next to a dock. MISTELSKE was given multiple commands to exit underneath the pontoon and that he was under arrest.
