Your Complainant is an Officer with the Owatonna Police Department. Investigation has revealed that on January 22nd, 2026, at approximately 6:11PM, Officer MacDonald was dispatched to a report of an assault on the 2200 block of Hartle Avenue Southeast, Owatonna, MN, County of Steele. Upon arrival, Officer Reyes and Officer MacDonald met with the reporting party, M. W. While Officer Reyes attempted to take a statement from M. W., Officer MacDonald observed the following signs of a struggle in the kitchen area: small pool/droplets of blood in the center of the kitchen floor, glass bottles strewn across the kitchen floor, and broken glass lying on the kitchen floor.
Officer MacDonald spoke with M. W. And obtained his statement. M. W. Stated, "I barely know Robert Hernandez [DOB REDACTED]. I met him a couple weeks ago. Hernandez was asking me to get him and eight ball of methamphetamine. I told him I don't do that stuff. I blocked his number after he kept bothering me. A while later someone was knocking on my door. So, I just opened the door and it was Hernandez. I invited Hernandez in and he started asking me about methamphetamine. I told him I don't do that stuff, and he punched me in the face.
I fell backwards onto the kitchen floor. Hernandez came at me like he was going to continue attacking me. I put my feet up in a defensive position and kicked him away. I started yelling at him, then he left. Hernandez has an LA tattoo on his hand." M. W. Stated he and Hernandez had been texting and showed Officer MacDonald the text messages. Officer MacDonald observed the following in the text messages: Hernandez attempted to make sexual advances, M. W. Rejects the sexual advances, miscellaneous text messages regarding hanging out, and talks about smoking marijuana.
Officer MacDonald observed swelling to M. W.'s nose and blood on his left pant leg. M. W. Was transported to the Owatonna Hospital where the nurses and doctor informed Officer MacDonald M. W.'s nose was broken. Sergeant Schumaker was standing at the door when R. H. Passed by the hallway. Sergeant Schumaker asked R. H. Where his brother Hernandez was. R. H. Stated that his brother (Hernandez) was current at their mom's apartment. R. H. Opened the door and Sergeant Schumaker observed Hernandez. Sergeant Schumaker observed that Hernandez matched the description that M. W. Had given to dispatch in regard to the suspect that had assaulted him.
While trying to obtain a statement from Hernandez, he kept avoiding Sergeant Schumaker's questions. Sergeant Schumaker obtained the following statement from Hernandez, "I have been staying here with my mom at her apartment complex. I did go knock on M. W.'s apartment door today. Whatever private conversation M. W.
