On December 22, 2025, at 1659 hours, Brooklyn Park Police Officers were dispatched to a vehicle crash report at [ADDRESS REDACTED], Brooklyn Park, Hennepin County. The reporting party stated that a vehicle struck a tree and then the driver exited the passenger's side and began running southbound from the crash site. The male was later identified as CHRISTIAN KELLY BRODT, Defendant herein. The Defendant was described as wearing shorts and no shirt. Officers arrived on scene and located a 1999 Express G2500 cargo van Minnesota License Plate [PLATE REDACTED] that had struck the tree and was not drivable.
A K9 track led Officers to [ADDRESS REDACTED] where they observed the Defendant inside another vehicle a 2007 Buick Lucerne with Wisconsin License Plate [PLATE REDACTED]. The Defendant had used a knife in the ignition and broke off the knife. The registered owner, J. S., stated that the Defendant was unknown to her, the knife was previously not broken off in her ignition prior to the Defendant entering it, and he did not have permission to be in her vehicle. Officers placed the Defendant under arrest.
In a post-Miranda statement, the Defendant's story changed multiple times, but he consistently stated that the van he crashed was stolen. At 1702 hours, Crystal Police Officers responded to a vehicle theft report that occurred at the Aldi's parking lot. H. H. Stated that he parked his 1999 White Chevy Express G2500 Van in the parking lot to go into the store and between 1630-1640, the vehicle was stolen. Surveillance from Aldi's and the surrounding stores for the original vehicle theft are pending and the complaint may be amended pending further information gained from surveillance of a suspect who stole the van initially.
The Defendant is currently in custody.
