In the early morning hours of April 3, 2026, law enforcement was dispatched to an emergency room in Fargo on a report that an assault had occurred at a home in Moorhead, Clay County, MN, and the Victim [NAME REDACTED] at the hospital. Victim [NAME REDACTED] had assaulted him at their home. He identified his brother as WILLIAM PARKER SCHWINDT, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter "Defendant. Victim [NAME REDACTED] is currently waiting to have shoulder surgery and is unable to move his arm. Because of this, he was unable to defend himself while he was being assaulted.
Victim [NAME REDACTED], Defendant, and their father had been drinking that night, and an argument occurred. He said that Defendant swung at him while he was still sitting down. Victim [NAME REDACTED], and Defendant hit him and pushed him down. While Victim [NAME REDACTED], Defendant continued to hit him. Following the assault, Victim got a ride to the emergency room out of concern for possible nose and jaw fractures. Victim reported that his faced swelled up immediately following the assault, and he could not move his jaw.
Victim was waiting test results to determine if his bones were in fact broken. The responding officer observed Victim's left eye to be swollen and a purple-blue color. The officer also observed that Victim's face appeared swollen and the side of his mouth did not move much. Law enforcement also spoke with Defendant. Defendant claimed that Victim was assaulting their elderly father, and he stepped in to stop the assault. He claimed that Victim [NAME REDACTED] in the face approximately four times and then Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Defendant admitted to striking Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Officers did not observe any injuries on Defendant and did not observe any injuries on the father.
The father has dementia and was unable to give a statement. Victim is the caregiver for their father. Not a DV Court case. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn.
