On 04/24/26 at 0839 hours, North St. Paul Police were dispatched to the Holiday gas station as [ADDRESS REDACTED] N in North St. Paul, Ramsey County for a weapons complaint. Upon my arrival, police spoke to employee/witness, JJ, who said his co-worker, KG, was the complainant who called 911. JJ said he saw the suspect, later identified as Jacob HAUWILLER-GUSTAFSON ([DOB REDACTED]), walking around the store with a sandwich and then go into the bathroom. He said he told KG that he believed HAUWILLER-GUSTAFSON was stealing.
Police spoke to KG who was visibly scared. She was crying and her voice was trembling. KG said that JJ told her that he believed the suspect had concealed a sandwich and was now locked in the men's restroom. KG knocked on the bathroom door and HAUWILLER-GUSTAFSON exited. KG said she asked HAUWILLER-GUSTAFSON if he had eaten the sandwich and HAUWILLER-GUSTAFSON became confrontational. KG said she walked away from HAUWILLER-GUSTAFSON but HAUWILLER-GUSTAFSON yelled profanities and called her a "b****." KG told HAUWILLER-GUSTAFSON that he needed to leave the store at which time HAUWILLER-GUSTAFSON walked toward her and said "back up before I pull my blade out" while patting his right pants pocket.
HAUWILLER-GUSTAFSON then exited the store. Using the outdoor intercom, JJ told HAUWILLER- GUSTAFSON to leave property and not return. HAUWILLER-GUSTAFSON then turned around, pulled out a knife, and walked back toward the store. GUENTHER said she feared for safety and the safety of customers. KG locked the door and HAUWILLER-GUSTAFSON turned away and walked off the property. CCTV footage confirmed JJ and KG’s account of events. When leaving the call, police spotted HAUWILLER-GUSTAFSON sitting on a bench near Margaret St and Seppala Blvd and took him into custody.
During a search incident to arrest, they recovered the large 9” pocketknife from his right front pants pocket. HAUWILLER-GUSTAFSON said KG “came inside the bathroom and said I did it. I didn't assault nobody." HAUWILLER-GUSTAFSON declined a formal statement.
