On January 5, 2026, law enforcement with the Chisago County Sheriff's Office received a report of a theft that occurred at a property located at [ADDRESS REDACTED] in Rushseba Township in Chisago County, Minnesota (the "Property). The caller reported that someone had stolen a trail camera. Law enforcement made contact with the owner of the property, D. G. B. II [DOB REDACTED]. He stated that on January 4, 2026, someone had stolen his trail camera. The trail camera worked on a cellular network and captured photos before and after it was stolen.
The photos show, at approximately 10 AM, what appears to be a dark blue 1999-2003 Chevy Tahoe truck and the suspect. The photos appear to show the suspect and the vehicle entering the driveway through a closed gate and walking around the Property. The camera later takes photos of what appears to be the dashboard of a vehicle and what appeared to be a Casey's sign. D. G. B. II stated there were multiple buildings on the property and he was unsure if any of them were broken into. Law enforcement went to the Property and met with a family member of the owner.
They discovered that a door that had previously been secured shut with a 2x4 from the inside was now forced open. They discovered that multiple types of ammunition had been stolen from inside the main building, including.243 caliber ammunition,.270 caliber, and.380 caliber ammunition. Also missing were a set of wrenches and a set of screwdrivers. Law enforcement reviewed license plate reader camera data in the area around the time the suspect vehicle was at the Property. They also reviewed camera data around the area where Casey's is located at around the time the trail camera sent a photo showing a Casey's sign.
Law enforcement found a Tahoe matching the one observed at the Property, including a distinctive white sticker placed on the truck, and were able to identify the license plate. Law enforcement placed a KOPS alert for the vehicle. An Anoka County Deputy informed Chisago County law enforcement that he had a recent interaction with the vehicle. The registered owner told law enforcement that the only person that typically drives the vehicle is ANDREW EDWARD SCHERFF [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein. Law enforcement with the City of Blaine located the vehicle on January 5, 2026 at a car shop in Blaine.
Defendant was working at the shop and stated he was the only person that drives the vehicle. Photos were taken of Defendant for comparison to the photos from the Property. Chisago County law enforcement later went to the shop to speak with Defendant. When they arrived, the suspect vehicle was observed parked there. When Defendant was asked if he knew why the officer was there, Defendant said he had a pretty good idea. Law enforcement asked about the Property in Chisago County and Defendant ultimately told him that he was initially in the area to look at a piece of property that was for sale, but then went to the Property and stole items.
