On May 26, 2026, Cottage Grove police officers responded to an address within the City of Cottage Grove, Washington County, on a report of a bullet hole located at the rear of the house. Cottage Grove police officer C. Linssen spoke with the complaining witness, [NAME REDACTED]S. [DOB REDACTED]. M. M. S. Advised that last night (5/25), she had been woken up by a loud bang around 11:00 P.M. M. M. S. Then estimated hearing five to six more loud bangs shortly thereafter. On May 26, 2026, M. M. S. Returned from work and observed a hole in the frame of the sliding door of her residence.
Following the trajectory of the hole, Ofc. Linssen was able to find another hole further inside the residence in the door to a hall closet. Inside the closet, Ofc. Linssen located a bullet that had impacted a paperback book. A neighbor to the south of M. M. S., J. B. M., also advised that about 11:00 P.M., she also heard multiple loud bangs. J. B. M. Advised she believed the loud bangs were coming from a house behind her house and pointed to [ADDRESS REDACTED] S. Officers responded to [ADDRESS REDACTED] S and determined that a resident of the house, DUSTIN JAMES SHEPERSKY [DOB REDACTED] had barricaded himself inside the residence.
Efforts to coax SHEPERSKY out of the residence and/or get a response while he remained in the residence were initially unsuccessful. As law enforcement prepared a search warrant for the residence, SHEPERSKY's wife, K. N. F. Exited the residence and spoke with law enforcement. K. N. F. Advised she had left the residence with her daughter at approximately 10:50 P.M. The night prior, after she and SHEPERSKY got into an altercation over SHEPERSKY's drinking habits. K. N. F. Reported SHEPERSKY had subsequently barricaded himself in a bedroom.
K. N. F. Advised she did not return to the residence until about midnight. K. N. F. Stated she did not see SHEPERSKY until later that following afternoon. Law enforcement ultimately utilized pepperball rounds to assist in the extrication of SHEPERSKY from the room within the residence. Upon executing a search warrant for the residence, law enforcement seized six firearms and various spent and live rounds of ammunition. Notably, law enforcement located two spent 9mm Luger casings on the residence driveway and 8 spent.308 casings on the patio.
Law enforcement seized a grey XXL sweater on the kitchen table, bundled up, near the sliding glass door by the patio. Inside the sweater, law enforcement discovered three further spent.308 rounds.
