On or about February 09, 2026, Law Enforcement were dispatched to an apartment complex on Crooked Lake Blvd in Coon Rapids, Anoka County, on a report by K. H. That her vehicle was stolen. K. H. Did not have her car keys or her credit cards and believed they were stolen from her purse. K. H. Is a vulnerable adult and had some memory difficulties, but there is extensive surveillance footage showing the vehicle being taken on or about February 07, 2026. The surveillance footage shows as follows: At 6:05A.M., a woman, later identified as JAKEVIA JANEA BEDFORD ([DOB redacted]), Defendant herein, approaches the apartment complex and starts ringing numbers on the building intercom in the vestibule area.
She told multiple residents that she had a package to deliver, and asked to be let in. One resident then buzzed her into the occupied apartment building. Defendant briefly went to the common area of the complex before heading to the underground parking garage. At approximately 6:15A.M., she is seen pulling door handles on numerous vehicles and going through multiple unlocked cars. At approximately 7:25A.M., Defendant returns to the common area where K. H. Was sitting, and engaged her in conversation, including K. H. Identifying which apartment she lived in.
After a few minutes, Defendant went to the second floor where K. H. Lives. Defendant returned to K. H. At approximately 7:51A.M., possibly to confirm which apartment was hers, before going back to the second floor. K. H. Stated that her apartment was unlocked and that her purse with her car keys and credit cards were inside. At approximately 8:21A.M., Defendant returned to the underground garage, got into K. H.'s vehicle, and drove it out of the lot, using the keys from K. H.'s apartment. The vehicle was later recovered in Plymouth, Hennepin County, with Defendant in the driver’s seat.
There were also extensive fraudulent charges on K. H.'s credit cards during the time that Defendant had her vehicle, which is being separately investigated. Defendant has several open cases for theft-related offenses, including First Degree Burglary (62-CR-23- 2058), three separate cases of Motor Vehicle Theft, two cases of Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle, and four cases of theft, identity theft, or receiving stolen property. Upon the vehicle's discovery in Hennepin County, Defendant was charged with Motor Vehicle Theft (••-CR-26-••••), but this case is being filed due to the circumstances under which Defendant obtained access to the vehicle.
