On November 22, 2025, at 9:12 P.M., Deputy Oyaas with the Washington County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the Holiday Station Store located at [address omitted] in Denmark Township, Washington County, regarding a driving complaint. The caller stated that the driver of a Ford F150 had failed to maintain the vehicle's speed and stay within the driving lane and had just entered the gas station. Upon arrival Deputy Oyaas observed the vehicle unoccupied in the parking lot. A short time later, the driver returned and exited the gas station heading northbound on Highway 61. Deputy Oyaas observed the driver make an improper right turn by turning directly into the far left lane of the highway.
The vehicle also swerved and crossed into the right turn lane, crossing two lanes of traffic without signaling. Deputy Oyaas initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as PATRICK TOM HOFFMAN, [DOB redacted]. Deputy Oyaas noted that HOFFMAN had slurred speech, watery eyes, and smelled an odor of alcoholic beverages coming from inside the vehicle. HOFFMAN stated he had four beers earlier in the evening. Deputy Oyaas administered the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn, and One-Leg Stand field sobriety tests, all of which HOFFMAN performed poorly.
HOFFMAN provided a preliminary breath test sample of.208. HOFFMAN was arrested for DWI and transported to the Washington County Jail where he was read the Breath Test Advisory. HOFFMAN agreed to take a test, which indicated his blood alcohol concentration was.19. HOFFMAN remains in custody at the Washington County Jail.
