The following is based on your complainant’s review of the reports of other officers and your complainant’s own investigation: On December 10, 2025, at shortly after 11:00pm, Ramsey County Emergency 911 received a call from a woman who said that her boyfriend had assaulted her a short time earlier at their home in Roseville. She noted that she was using her mother’s phone to call for help, as he had taken hers. Roseville Police responded and met with the caller, ADL ([DOB REDACTED]), at her mother’s home in St. Paul.
She said that her boyfriend of about seven years, and the father of her child, [NAME REDACTED], ANTOINE MERRIT SHELTON, JR. ([DOB REDACTED]) aka Antoine Merit Shelton, Jr. ([DOB REDACTED]) aka Antoine Merit Shelton, Jr. ([DOB REDACTED]). She said that they live together with their one-year old son in an apartment on McCarrons Blvd. W. In Roseville, Ramsey County. ADL said that earlier in the day, she and the defendant had argued over text message, during which he said, “I’m finna beat your ass.” (A photograph of this message was recovered.) She said that about 10:00pm that night, he entered their bedroom, grabbed her phone, and refused to return it.
ADL continued that the defendant noticed that she was packing her belongings to leave, and they argued further, during which he struck her once in the face with an open hand. She said that he went into the bathroom, and she followed to try to retrieve her phone, during which he struck her again in the face. She said that when she ran to the apartment door, to yell for help, he strangled her, with a one-arm chokehold from behind. ADL said that during the strangulation, she struggled to breathe, talk, or yell for help.
She said that after about 30 seconds, she was able to bite the defendant's hand and pull away. Officers observed and photographed redness and bruising skin around ADL’s eye. She said that her throat was still sore. The defendant was located the next day. In a Mirandized interview, he confirmed that he and ADL had initially argued over text message. When asked whether he had told her, “I’m finna beat your ass,” he said no. But then he asked how officers had seen his texts, since he was still in possession of her phone.
The defendant also confirmed while in the bedroom, he noticed that ADL was packing up her belongings, became angry, and took her phone.
