The trooper who performed the reconstruction learned the defendant was driving at 41 mph at the time of the crash and was accelerating up to the point of impact. The defendant did not apply the brakes at all before the crash, despite that he crossed a double yellow line while speeding. The trooper assessed negligent driving behavior to the defendant for the crash for speeding and crossing over the double yellow line. Deputies received medical records from all 3 vehicle occupants for injuries received from the crash.
From K. P.’s medical records, deputies learned she suffered a nasal bone fracture and extremity fractures to her right humerus bone and left ulna bone. Medical records for B. B. Revealed he suffered a nasal fracture and a burst fracture to his L2 vertebrae in his spine. B. B. Also suffered a very large open wound to his right temple. The state contends both K. P. And B. B. Suffered substantial bodily injury from the crash. Hospital staff found many baggies in the defendant’s pants, as well as alcohol prep pads.
Both are associated with controlled substance use and sale. Hospital security had also located a pipe with a significant amount of powder inside of it. The pipe appeared to be used for the consumption of controlled substances. During a subsequent conversation with a Carlton County Sheriff’s Office investigative specialist, the defendant admitted driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. The defendant also provided his cell phone password to the investigative specialist during the call. A check of the defendant's driving history revealed he has a prior impaired-related DL revocation from May 19th, 2021.
