Wiggins was found lying on the floor in a pool of blood. A cell phone was by Wiggins’ hands, and a Smith and Wesson handgun was by his feet. Officers recovered a spent casing from inside the apartment. Wiggins had an empty handgun holster in his possession. Wiggins apparently put the handgun beneath his chin and pulled the trigger. The bullet exited by Wiggins left cheek and lodged in the apartment ceiling. Wiggins was transported to Regions Hospital in very critical condition. Wiggins is expected to survive his injury.
Wiggins did not suffer neurological injuries from his suicide attempt. Wiggins is expected to be hospitalized for a considerable length of time. AD’s children told police that Wiggins and she have been in an on-and-off relationship since they met. They both began using methamphetamine after their son was sent to prison. AD was trying to get clean. SW found out that Wiggins was having an affair with AD, and SW was in the process of leaving Wiggins. They said AD did not want to get back together with Wiggins.
They had not known Wiggins to be physically violent with AD. AD’s best friend told police that Wiggins does not live at the apartment. Wiggins had been trying to get back together with AD, but AD did not want to get back together with him. AD told both her friend and Wiggins that she did not want to get back together with him, and she didn’t want Wiggins around. AD would not let Wiggins in when he came to her apartment. The friend said Wiggins always carried a gun. Wiggins had a valid permit to carry a firearm at the time of this incident.
