On November 30, 2025, officers of the Blaine Police Department were dispatched to a residence on 124th Ln NE in the city of Blaine, Anoka County, Minnesota, for a report of a 911 call in which a female could be heard crying and asking for police before a man could be heard saying “No that’s okay” followed by the call disconnecting. While en route to the location, officers learned that the female had since walked to a neighbor’s house and asked the neighbor to call 911, saying that she had been slapped.
Officers arrived and made contact with J. Y. Who requested to see a doctor. J. Y. Told officers that she had been slapped but would not give a direct response as to who slapped her. J. Y. Eventually stated that one of her children had an accident on the floor and she spanked the child for discipline when her husband, Abdu Abdulla Hassan, [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, became upset and an argument ensued. J. Y. Indicated that the argument escalated to the point where Defendant used a single hand around the front of her throat to choke her and then slapped her on the left side of her face, striking her ear and causing her to have a hard time balancing.
J. Y. Further indicated that Defendant choked her again while she was on the ground to a point at which she urinated herself. J. Y. Told officers that she had difficulty breathing during both times of being choked and that she had to bite Defendant on his forearm to get Defendant to stop. J. Y. Told officers that she tried to grab her phone after the incident to call 911 but that Defendant had hidden it from her. Eventually, J. Y. Obtained an old phone from one of her children and was able to call 911. Officers also spoke to Defendant, who stated that he was in an argument with J. Y. After J. Y. Disciplined one of their children.
Defendant stated that he had pulled J. Y. Away from the child for hitting the child and that J. Y. Then began hitting, scratching, and biting him. Officers did observe scratch marks and bruising on Defendant’s arms. J. Y.’s phone was located in a cupboard in the kitchen.
