On May 16, 2025, Woodbury Police Officer was on routine patrol on northbound I494 from Valley Creek Road, in the City of Woodbury, Washington County, Minnesota. Officer was driving his squad in a 60-m.p.h. Zone when he observed a vehicle quickly approaching his squad at 86 to 95 m.p.h. Officer attempted to effectuate a traffic stop. The vehicle exited to Tamarack Road, crossed over the fog line, made a hard turn around the curve and was weaving between lane lines. The vehicle then came to the top of the ramp signaling to go westbound on Tamarack Road, slowed for the red light and then continued to make a right turn, and continued westbound at 45 mph, then made a sharp right turn to get onto southbound I494. The vehicle continued southbound and increased its speeds to around 95 m.p.h. Passing vehicles and signaled to exit at 100 m.p.h. At this time, the pursuit was terminated at 12:53 A.M. The vehicle turned northbound on Woodlane Drive and turned off all its lights.
Officer followed the path of the vehicle until the Kohl's parking lot entrance where it turned around to southbound. The vehicle was located a few minutes later. The driver was identified as Karlee Rae Lange, (D. O. B. 1-18- 2007), Defendant herein. Defendant had bloodshot watery eyes and smelled of consumed alcoholic beverages and burnt marijuana. Defendant was arrested and handcuffed. Inside of the vehicle were open bottles of alcohol and burnt marijuana roaches in the cup holders. There were also pre-rolled marijuana joints throughout the vehicle.
Defendant's phone was also there and open with a pending Uber request to pick up from the parking lot where she was located. Defendant was transported to the Woodbury Police Department. Officer read Defendant her Miranda Rights. Defendant said she believed she was under arrest because of the bottles in her car. Defendant said they belonged to her friend. Defendant said she didn't remember getting pulled over and had been at the Speedway in Maplewood. Defendant said that all she could remember was lights and sirens at the apartment complex and she stopped there to change directions on her phone.
Defendant said she had 2 shots of tequila two hours prior to driving and that she last smoked marijuana three to four hours prior. Officer explained the horizontal gaze nystagmus test to Defendant. Officer observed the lack of smooth pursuit in both eyes, distinct and sustained nystagmus in both eyes and the onset of nystagmus in both eyes. Officer obtained a search warrant for Defendant's blood. A sample was obtained. Defendant has one qualified OWI event from Wisconsin on 3-6-2026 in 2026TR001893. Defendant also has a restriction on her Wisconsin [DL# REDACTED] ignition interlock and it was not present in the vehicle she was driving.
Defendant is in custody.
