A female in the driver's seat of a parked vehicle appeared to be passed out or injured and not responding. Chief Trieglaff arrived first and observed the vehicle was running with the lights on. He approached and knocked on the window. The female driver then responded and lowered her window, providing her [DL# REDACTED] her as HAILEE ALETTA JOHNSON [DOB REDACTED]. JOHNSON said she was visiting a friend but did not know the friend's last name and stated she was in Detroit Lakes. JOHNSON appeared very confused and denied using any drugs or alcohol or needing medical assistance.
Becker County deputies arrived on scene and spoke with JOHNSON. Deputy Viere observed JOHNSON'S pupils to be large and checked her eyes with a bright light, noting her pupils did not react. JOHNSON stated she last used drugs approximately a week prior, but stated she did not remember what she used. Deputy Rux administered field sobriety tests on JOHNSON and observed several clues of impairment throughout the tests. Deputies arrested JOHNSON for suspicion of DWI and applied for a search warrant for her blood or urine.
The search warrant was signed by a judge and JOHNSON was transported to the hospital for a test. Deputy Rux explained the search warrant to JOHNSON and informed her that failure to take a test was a crime. JOHNSON requested to read the search warrant and deputies moved her handcuffs to the front so JOHNSON could hold the search warrant while she read it. JOHNSON stated she was not going to give a sample. Deputies again explained that refusal is a crime. JOHNSON stated she understood and that she refused to give a sample.
JOHNSON was transported to the Becker County Jail. At the jail during intake, jail staff located on JOHNSON a small amount of marijuana and a clear glass pipe. Deputy Rux field tested the pipe and it was positive for methamphetamine. JOHNSON was convicted of DWI on January 18, 2024 in Court File ••-CR-••-••••. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn.
