On March 26, 2026, officers observed a vehicle driving 62 miles per hour in a 40 miles per hour zone on westbound Bass Lake Road, in the City of Plymouth, County of Hennepin, State of Minnesota. Officers began following the vehicle, which pulled over prior to officers activating emergency lights on the squad vehicle. Officers approached and identified the driver as Stanley Dennis Blackshire [DOB REDACTED]. Blackshire informed the officers that he did not have insurance on the vehicle and that his driver's license was suspended.
Blackshire told officers that pulled over before being directed to by officers because he knew he was speeding and “didn’t want any problems.” Officers noticed the smell of burned marijuana coming from the vehicle, and Blackshire told officers that he had approximately 1 ounce of marijuana inside the vehicle. Blackshire handed officers a package of marijuana from inside the passenger compartment that was not properly sealed. Blackshire provided officers with consent to search the vehicle, and officers located two unsealed containers of suspected marijuana, two digital scales, and an unmarked pill bottle containing what appeared to be prescription 5mg Oxycodone pills inside a black bag.
Officers placed Blackshire under arrest. In a post-Miranda statement, Blackshire told officers that the pills were his father’s and the bag containing the pills also belonged to his father. Blackshire said his father was the one who removed the prescription label from the bottle. Blackshire also said that he had picked up the pills for his father the day before, and that prior to stopping for police he was driving home from his mother’s house. Blackshire correctly estimated the number of pills in the bottle.
Blackshire later told the officers that the bag belonged to him. Records from prior cases involving Blackshire suggest both of his parents are deceased. Officers obtained a warrant for information from the Minnesota Prescription Monitoring Program and showed that Blackshire did not have any current prescriptions for Oxycodone. Blackshire has prior convictions for first-degree sale of heroin in 27-CR-12-9831 from May 21, 2013, and third-degree possession of methamphetamine in 27-CR-23-18403 from June 25, 2024. The State respectfully requests that this complaint issue by warrant given the danger to public safety posed by Blackshire’s conduct.
