On May 2, 2026, at 3:09 A.M., Minnesota State Troopers conducting stationary radar enforcement on westbound Interstate 94 near Broadway Avenue in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, observed a black CF-Moto 450SS motorcycle bearing Minnesota license plate [PLATE REDACTED] traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver was later identified as Matthew Shane Broderson ([DOB redacted], hereafter “Defendant”). Troopers activated their patrol vehicle’s front radar, which showed Defendant traveling 90 miles per hour in a posted 60 mile per hour zone.
Troopers caught up to Defendant and observed him weaving through traffic at high speeds. Near 53rd Avenue, troopers again obtained a radar reading showing Defendant traveling 108 miles per hour in the posted 60 mile per hour zone. While merging from westbound Interstate 94 onto westbound Interstate 694, Defendant nearly struck the left median wall and drove onto the shoulder twice while negotiating the curve. As Defendant passed Shingle Creek Parkway in Brooklyn Park, troopers activated their emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop.
Defendant initially moved toward the shoulder but refused to stop and instead accelerated, fleeing at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. Troopers observed Defendant making evasive maneuvers, including crossing over the white apex separating the Brooklyn Boulevard exit ramp from westbound Interstate 694. Defendant continued fleeing at speeds reaching approximately 110 miles per hour and nearly struck another motorist who had moved onto the shoulder for the emergency vehicle. As Defendant exited onto County Road 81, troopers terminated the pursuit due to Defendant’s dangerous and erratic driving behavior.
Moments later, troopers observed Defendant’s motorcycle crashed on the County Road 81 exit ramp. The motorcycle appeared to have slid into a guardrail, and Defendant was located in the grass embankment beyond the guardrail. Troopers observed Defendant initially unconscious and choking on fluid before regaining consciousness. Defendant stated the motorcycle belonged to him and that he had been riding motorcycles for approximately one year. Troopers did not observe signs of impairment. Defendant was treated by emergency medical personnel and transported to North Memorial Health Hospital for medical care.
Investigation of the scene showed evidence the motorcycle slid along the pavement before colliding with the guardrail. Defendant is currently out of custody.
