On or about March 3, 2026, at approximately 11:05 PM, law enforcement was on patrol in the area of North Division Street, across from the Carleton College steam plant, in Northfield, Rice County. Law enforcement observed a pickup driving eastbound that passed two other vehicles. The vehicles passed pulled over to the shoulder due to the reckless driving of the pickup. Law enforcement pursued the pickup truck east on Highway 19. Law enforcement activated its emergency lights. The pickup ignored the lights and continued driving.
The pickup then turned north onto Canada Avenue and eventually came to a stop. Law enforcement exited its squad vehicle, drew their weapon and verbally ordered the driver to shut off the pickup and put his hands out the window. The driver ignored all commands and then sped off again at a high rate of speed. Law enforcement continued pursuing the vehicle with emergency lights and sirens activated. The pickup drove north on Canada Avenue, over the Dudley Bridge and to Northfield Boulevard. The pickup then went through Waterford and it came to a stop sign at Highway 3. The pickup turned left and went south on Highway 3 into Northfield.
It appeared the driver thew something out of the vehicle during the pursuit. The pickup then turned left on Heritage Drive. Speeds during the pursuit reached approximately 62 MPH in a 45-MPH zone and 48 MPH in a 40-MPH zone. The pickup then turned left on Hidden Valley Drive and stopped in front of [address omitted]. The pursuit covered approximately 6.27 miles. The driver did exit the vehicle and was later identified as TRAVIS EDWIN NAMANNY, [DOB redacted] ("Defendant"). It was later determined the residence the Defendant stopped in front of was his mother's. The Defendant then did not comply with commands and walked around the pickup.
Law enforcement forcibly brought the Defendant to the ground. The Defendant actively resisted arrest and fought with law enforcement. The Defendant shouted racial slurs at officers on scene. Law enforcement had to use a drive stun from thier Conducted Energy Device to try and get the Defendant under control. The Defendant was ultimately arrested, but continued to resist and be verbally aggressive and threatening towards law enforcement. The Defendant told law enforcement "I'm not going easily!" The Defendant was placed in the back of a squad vehicle.
The Defendant continued to resist, scream and yell. The Defendant was very active in the back of the squad vehicle, yelling and shaking violently. The Defendant then complained about a blood clot issue and began smashing his head against the case. EMS checked out the Defendant and determined he could go to jail. Defendant's mother and child were outside by the residence when the interaction with law enforcement occurred. At the jail, it was determined that the Defendant would need to be medically cleared.
