On January 30, 2026, at approximately 4:30 P.M., Saint Paul Officers responded to the 1500 block of Marion Street, Saint Paul, County of Ramsey, on a victim who was punched and unconscious. Officers arrived in the area and met JARED JAMES SPROWLS, [DOB REDACTED]. SPROWLS said he called 911. SPROWLS said he was involved in an altercation with someone in apartment #3XX. SPROWLS was detained and placed in the back of a squad car. Officers found TS lying on the floor in the living and kitchen area-on his back with head near the kitchen trash can.
TS had an injury to his right ear, swollen bump to the corner of his left eye, labored breathing. He did not respond to stimuli. TS was transported by medics to Regions Hospital. After a Miranda advisory, SPROWLS spoke to police. He said he is homeless and the female (RMH) in apartment #XX allowed him to sleep on the couch. He has been staying at RMH’s apartment for less than thirty days. The male he had an altercation with is “T” (later identified as TS). TS arrived at the apartment around 11:00 or noon on January 30th.
RMH wanted TS to leave the apartment. SPROWLS asked TS to leave, but he would not and became aggressive toward RMH. SPROWLS intervened and TS got “aggressive and very angry” toward him. TS got close to him. SPROWLS took a step back and told TS to please leave. TS started grabbing him. SPROWLS told him he did not want a confrontation. TS lunged at him while in the kitchen area, knocked things over, and attacked him. TS was throwing punches, but not connecting. SPROWLS slapped TS with an open hand and TS fell to the floor.
SPROWLS slapped TS a second time. SPROWLS stood over TS and said, “Please, I don’t want to do this, but can you please leave.” SPROWLS allowed TS to get up. SPROWLS told TS to leave or take the matter outside. TS placed his glass down and went at him again. SPROWLS said he punched TS with a right hook that connected with TS’s jaw. TS fell to the floor on the back of his head and started “snoring.” SPROWLS said he immediately called 911. SPROWLS had an abrasion on his neck, a small abrasion on his right ring finger, and a small scratch near his left wrist.
RMH was on scene. RMH said TS is her boyfriend and they have been together for twenty years. She allowed SPROWLS to stay with her because he is homeless. TS and SPROWLS know each other, but they do not get along. TS does not like SPROWLS. On January 30th, she was in her room. She heard TS and SPROWLS arguing. They had been drinking alcohol. The argument became physical. She heard loud smashing and bumping sounds. She heard one of the male’s yell, “Get off me.” She then heard a heavy thud. She left her room and told them to stop.
She saw SPROWLS on the floor beside TS. SPROWLS said, “Hurry, we have to call 911” and “I didn’t mean to.” She gave SPROWLS her telephone to call 911. RMH said that this was not the first altercation between SPROWLS and TS over SPROWLS staying with her. Medical staff advised TS had multiple brain hemorrhages, brain swelling, a facial fracture, and cranial pressure. At last update, TS was in critical but stable condition. Investigators were not able to interview TS due to his medical condition.
