On 11/20/2025, at approximately 23:54 hours, Centennial Lakes Police Officer Baker conducted a traffic stop of a 2009 Infiniti FX35 with Indiana plate DKL 193. Prior to the stop, the Officer was conducting a stationary patrol facing westbound at the intersection of Lake Drive and Woodland Road, in the City of Lexington, County of Anoka, when he observed a silver Infiniti exit the parking lot of Cowboys Saloon and proceed toward the intersection of Restwood Road and Lake Drive. As the Infiniti made the turn, Officer Baker observed the driver appear to lose control of the vehicle, causing it to enter the oncoming lane of travel before correcting its course.
The Infiniti then proceeded eastbound on Lake Drive toward the Officer’s squad. The vehicle entered the left-turn lane at Griggs Avenue. When the semaphore turned green, the Infiniti continued straight instead of turning left from the designated turn lane and did so without signaling. The Infiniti passed the Officer’s squad, at which time Officer Baker turned around and began following it. The Officer then observed the Infiniti sway side to side within its lane of travel. Upon reaching the intersection of Lake Drive and Woodland Road, the vehicle drifted left over the designated lane lines and into the yellow center median.
Officer Baker continued to follow the vehicle and observed it continue to drift over lane lines and not signal a turn within less than 100 feet of an intersection. As the Officer followed, the vehicle accelerated to a high rate of speed. Officer Baker activated his front radar unit, which displayed a speed of 43 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone. The Officer then conducted a traffic stop; however, the Infiniti did not pull over to the right and decreased its speed. Officer Baker activated his siren, and the Infiniti continued to drive in the left-most lane until reaching the intersection of 99th Avenue and Lexington Avenue.
The Infiniti then made a left turn onto 99th Avenue before coming to a stop on 99th Avenue. Officer Baker made contact with the driver, who was later identified through his Indiana Driver’s license as GRANT MICHAEL TAUEG [DOB REDACTED], herein the defendant. The Officer immediately detected a strong odor of consumed alcoholic beverage emitting from the defendant's breath when speaking to him. Officer Baker also noted that the defendant's eyes were watery and he was slurring his words frequently. Officer Baker asked the defendant if he had anything to drink.
The defendant initially stated no, but after being asked additional questions by the Officer, the defendant eventually said he had just one beer. The Officer asked the defendant to perform Standard Field Sobriety Tests, and the defendant agreed. The 1st test Officer Baker conducted was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Test. The Officer observed a lack of smooth pursuit in both eyes and distinct and sustained Nystagmus in both eyes. Then the Officer Conducted the Walk and Turn Test. Officer Baker noted that the defendant did not step heel to toe on some of his steps.
