Deputy Jusczak responded to the area and found S. G., [DOB REDACTED], walking on the shoulder of the road. As he approached, he saws that she appeared disheveled, upset, and crying. When he exited his squad, she could hear her calling for help. Walk talking to S. G., Deputy Jusczak saw that she had a bloody nose, was missing two front teeth, and had wet areas on her jeans near her knees. S. G. Was visibly shaken and distressed. She reported that her ex-boyfriend, GARY LEE BERG, [DOB REDACTED], the above-named defendant, struck her in the face multiple times and threw her from his vehicle.
S. G. Explained she and the Defendant had been traveling from St. Cloud to Minneapolis to borrow a vehicle. She reported that the argument escalated when she mentioned she forgot her phone, and the Defendant started striking her in the face with a closed fist while driving. She said that the strikes caused her two front false teeth to be knocked out & break. When that happened, the Defendant turned off of HWY 10 onto an unknown roadway and told her to get out of the vehicle. When she tried, the door would not open.
The Defendant then accelerated and continued driving. The Defendant pulled over again, exited the vehicle, and went to the passenger side where S. G. Was sitting. The Defendant then opened the door and forcibly pulled her from the vehicle and threw her to the ground. The Defendant then got back into the vehicle and fled the scene. S. G. Did not ask for medical attention or care, but Deputy Jusczak photographed injuries to her face, teeth, arm, and side. S. G. Was emotional and shaken during her contact with Deputy Jusczak and explained that she’d never experienced an incident like this before and believed she was in serious danger.
A review of the Defendant’s criminal history shows one prior conviction within the last ten years for Gross Misdemeanor Domestic Assault in Court File Number 71-CR-15-1259.
