On November 24, 2025, at approximately 10:21 A.M., Deputy Jeremy Johnson of the Itasca County Sheriff's Office/AIMVCET Drug Task Force applied for a search warrant for the address of 415 SE 21st Street, [APT REDACTED], Grand Rapids, Itasca County, and the person of Gregory Alan South. The search warrant was signed by the Honorable Heidi M. Chandler. On November 24, 2025, at approximately 1:32 P.M., members of the AIMVCET Task Force executed the search warrant. While searching South's bedroom, law enforcement located a purple/black digital scale containing a white crystal-like substance, multiple clear plastic baggies containing a white crystal-like substance, and a purple Crown Royal bag containing clear plastic baggies with a crystal-like substance.
Also located in the Crown Royal bag were two cleaning brushes commonly associated with drug pipes. Also located in South's dresser drawer were several suspected methamphetamine pipes and various hypodermic needles. During a voluntary statement, South admitted that the plastic baggies would have methamphetamine residue in them. He admitted to using methamphetamine by injecting, snorting, and smoking. He showed officers track marks on his inner right arm. South was not taken into custody following the statement.
He was allowed to remain at his apartment due to his cooperation. The drug evidence collected from the apartment was transported back to the Itasca County Sheriff's Office. The suspected methamphetamine on the digital scale and inside one of the baggies was field-tested for controlled substances. Both came back positive for methamphetamine (Schedule II Controlled Substance). A record check revealed that South has a prior conviction for felony Fifth Degree Controlled Substance Possession from July 6, 2007 in St Louis County Court file 69HI-CR-06-1631.
