On April 10, 2025, law enforcement was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on southbound Central Avenue and 49th avenue in the City of Columbia Heights, Anoka County. The driver of the red sedan, the Defendant herein, TOMASINA LANDOSHA HUMPHRIES [DOB REDACTED] told officers that the accident was her fault and claimed that she had started to drink her coffee and didn’t realize the car in front of her stopped when she struck it. Also, inside the Defendant's vehicle at the time of the accident was her stepdaughter and a toddler.
The driver of the other vehicle, Victim A, complained of shoulder pain and was transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Medical evaluation of Victim A revealed no fractures but indicated whiplash causing the associated pain. Officers observed the Defendant appeared to be sluggish in her movements and slow to respond to questions and they believed she may be impaired. The other occupant of the vehicle told law enforcement that she had been driving erratically prior to the accident, and she believed the defendant had taken medications and should not have been driving.
A trooper responded to the scene to complete field sobriety testing. The Defendant did not perform well on the testing, and a number of clues were observed by the trooper indicating impairment. The Defendant was placed under arrest. The Defendant indicated she wanted certain items to go with her to jail, including an Advil bottle. Inside that bottle were six pills that were not consistent with Advil. The pills were later identified as Alprazolam. A plastic straw, cut in half, consistent with drug use was also located with the Defendants belongings.
The Defendant was placed under arrest and transported to the hospital for a blood draw pursuant to a search warrant. The results of the blood draw revealed the presence of fentanyl in the defendant's blood at the time of the accident. A check of the Minnesota prescription monitoring program did not reveal a prescription for the Defendant for fentanyl or Alprazolam.
