On October 3, 2025, law enforcement was dispatched to a report of a theft from a storage unit at the Public Storage located on Woodcrest Drive in the City of Coon Rapids, Anoka County, Minnesota. The reporting party indicated that the lock to their unit had been cut, and a significant number of items had been stolen including three compound bows, a custom-built humidor, computers, shoes and watches. The loss was estimated to be approximately $3,000. Surveillance footage at the location was reviewed which showed two males parked across the street from the location at park in a Dodge pickup truck run across the street to enter the locked gate while another vehicle leaves.

A partial license plate is observed starting with SHN. Through investigation, officers identify the truck as that belonging to the Co-Defendant herein Nicholas Arthur Trunnell [DOB REDACTED]. Officers compared prior photos of the Co-Defendant to surveillance footage from that night to positively identify the Co-Defendant as one of the two males.
The other male, the Defendant herein, was later identified as Justin Samuel Schaden [DOB REDACTED]. Officers confirmed that the Defendant's appearance matched the male in the surveillance footage as well as his noticeable limp. Defendant was observed pawning a compound bow at Pawn America in Coon Rapids three days after the burglary.
